What's happening in surfers

Post by princess »

As I was driving out of surfers this morning I spied a rather large ferris wheel on the bus terminal site??? Does anyone know about this??

*speculation*

The one in Perth is gone, maybe this is where it's ended up?

It is the Wheel of Perth that has ended up on the roof of the Surfers Paradise Bus Terminal. Has been planned for a few years and was originally going to be the Sea World Eye (60m) but those plans fell through and the Sea World Eye was presumably sent back to Europe and we now have the 50m version that was in Perth.

I can't see how it is going to survive. There is nothing to look at there except the side of buildings. There is also a blacked out VIP car.
Would have cost a fortune getting it up there...every piece had to be craned up.

Yep its the one from Perth

all they need to do is park the trailer sideways, have half the deck going over the edge, and you've got yourself one hell of "crazy cups" thrill ride  if they want to get this venture well and truly on to the tourist map they should look into one of these

anyone heard anything on how the wheel is doing?

Haven't heard but I'm down there every week at different times and never see people on it. I know Q1 has been down on numbers so I can't imagine they are doing well.
Mind you the tourist season is upon us so it can only do better!

Last I saw about 2 weeks ago they were both still there. They are owned by different people than the FlyCoaster so they may not move at all.

The land The Bungy, Fly Coaster and ParaNoia, Mini Bungy Trams etc were on is up for lease. From what I hear Vomitron and Sling Shot are negotiating staying on. There is talk os a Go-Kart track going on the site but I doubt due to noise it would go ahead.

Ok so what is happening with this lovely white ferris wheel in surfers, it has apparently gone into receivership, it is sitting still set up, is this on the market? I know we have an
abundance of wheels already here, will it stay in the country? I like it better than Durkins new wheel, any takers??

Sad for those who've invested. My opinion is that most of its target-market would have had a similar if not higher view from their high-rise hotel room window - the view would be a major factor in enticing riders. Surfers Paradise is really suffering at the moment with the high $AU decreasing overseas tourists and after effect of the major flooding to potential visitors. Strips of restaurants cannot compete with eachother and are bordered up and graffitti'd like a ghetto. Speaking to local real estate agents - there is also enough surplus 'holiday apartments' to out-supply current demand from new owners for the next 5 years, with property prices dropping over the last few.

I hear nearby Broadwater is the 'new' Surfers Paradise?

ps. Yes this wheel presents brilliantly and better than Durkins - but Durkins Chance wheel is 3-4 trailers total (this Surfers Paradise wheel would be more than 3 trailers just for the passenger cabins!) Not viable for the travelling show circuit.

Yes funder I did agree.

Still a shame, hope it does not rust out sitting there in the sea air, waiting for someone to buy
It.

It cost big money craneing it all up piece by piece so whoever gets it will be up for those costs too.

It is a shame but very poor uneducated decision to start with.

No Dell I have to visit regularly. As for adrenaline park, when I go past it's usually at 7 in the morning, I will have a look over the next couple of nights.
