Carnival worker dies after July 4th festivities
by Allison Hillaker, 5th July

SAND LAKE -- July 4th festivities end in tragedy in one Michigan community, as a Carnival worker dies.

The Associated Press reports a man from Jackson was taking down a 60-foot-tall ride when he touched a down power line.

NBC25’s sister station, WOOD-TV, reports the incident happened around 3:00 a.m. in Sand Lake.

The carnival employee died from the injuries.

The ride he was taking down is called the Fireball, and sends people upside down in a loop.

His name is not yet being released as police investigate the situation and continue to notify family.

Unfortunately this type of ride has been involved in several fatal and nonfatal incidents, including one at Darling Harbour when the ride operator was struck by the Super Loop when he bent to pick up a wallet which fell from the ride. I think this happened in 1991 or there abouts.
