Some construction pics

Hey everyone. I went out to Dreamworld yesterday (30 March 2006) and got some construction pics of the new Dreamworld Water Park.

The carparks have had a massive overhaul, but if you ask me, it seems they wont have enough parking for two parks at peak time. However, they may have additional plans up their sleeve.

The photos consist of two cleared land shots, which used to be car parking at the front of Dreamworld.

Two shots of the old Thunderbolt area. They have closed down the Aftermath shop where you would view and purchase photos from the Cyclone. This has now moved to right infront of the Cyclone entry. The park was not very busy yesterday and it was creating a bottle neck and making it difficult to enter the ride. Lets see how it will go during peak times.

The remaining three shots are on construction work happening in and around the Cyclone. It loos like there will be water slides tangled up with the Cyclone. They are currently cementing in pillars etc. If done correctly, this would look really good.

I must say, it seems they are not leaving much land left for the Water Park to grow. They are not leaving any spare land at the front of the park, especially since the new road has been constructed to head up to the Coomera Marina. They will probably expand up behind the Vortex where they usually have special events and where they house their maintenance crews. Time will tell.

Good work Mattie!

It doens't look like a December '06 opening to me though...perhaps a partial opeing?? Overall, I would suggest target completion may be September '07.

The picture 'thunderbolt_area_01.gif' looks like the side wall for a 'Flow Rider' (standing wave).....perhaps!

Keep them coming over the course of the project, Mattie!

I really hope they don't waste their money on a 'flow rider'. They are not spending all that much money on the water park as it is and a flow rider would suck up a whole heap of the cash I'm sure

Crazyboi, do you mean like Wet N Wild's lazy river?

Part of the plans was to include a large wave pool. That alone would be quite costly.

New Coaster For Dreamworld

There are rumors that Dreamworld will be getting a RollerSoaker. This is a new type of coaster that allows guests to drench non-riders and people in the queue with water while riding the ride. The bad news, it's most likely going to be made by Vekoma. See their website for more info!

Flow Rider

I'm going to say that I think it's a flow rider. But, after saying that, wouldn't it have been better to add this to the water park?

It says that the attraction will be open by June 2006 (news article).

Just on a ride note: It's really hard to type a message in this box due to the fact that the curser and the background are the same colour.

No Mattie, I'm not talking about a lazy river. I actually love lazy rivers and I certainly hope the DW waterpark will be getting one (hopefully heavily themed). A flow rider is basically like a surfing machine. It provides an artificial wave that allows people to 'surf' without actually moving anywhere. There are a few of them overseas. As far as I know they are very low capacity ie. only one rider at a time and I don't think they'd suit a waterpark at all

The Roller Soaker sounds interesting! I'm not too sure about getting wet before going on the ride though. It'd want to be a warm day or you'd get bloody cold whilst lining up.

As for the water park, I can't wait for it to open! It does sound like it isn't going to be too large, especially if they're eating into valuable car park space for construction. I would've thought they'd put the water park some place close to the Big Brother house where there is a lot of land. Still, it should be a great place when it gets going.

I visited Dreamworld again today (26/04/06) and it seems construction on the water park is proceeding full speed ahead.

Not only is there construction happening in the Thunderbolt grave site and in and around the Cyclone, supports are currently being installed in the front corner of the water park.

The construction in the Thunderbolt grave site is looking more and more like the flowrider you guys were talking about.

The park also has some signs up too.

See the pics below.

Hey Mattie - any more construction pics coming up? I would expect it would have progressed quite a bit now and would love to see some more if you get a chance

I am planning to get back out again over the next couple of weeks. Will get more pics then.

Jmil326, Flowrider already exists in Ocean Parade where the Thunderbolt used to exist.

All I know is that its a roller coaster that is being added.
