Re: Gladstone show

Hopefully this show will get community support in the future, otherwise it will fold like so many regional and rural events did throughout the early 2000's. Part of the reason for that was high insurance premiums but also the lack of community support played a part.

Re: Ekka 2011

Great review and I could feel the disappointment as I read. Should I bother visiting next week? I'll be in Adelaide this weekend but unfortunately much too early for their Show. If only it was a few weeks later! Anyway, I quite liked the Disko but agree with you TG about it needing a longer ride cyc...

The ride list is on the Ekka website now and there are absolutely no surprises and No Limit, Thunderbolt and Power Surge appear to be missing as we thought. Still, it should be a good Show.

Wow that sounds amazing! I assume there is no additional fee to ride this one? Also a great price for the 1-year pass!

Re: Ekka 2011

One month until Ekka and still nothing on the website or anywhere else I can find ride line-up information. I'm guessing the list of rides will be predictable with No Limit and Thunderbolt hopefully returning and Extreme probably one of the newies. Definitely sad with no Skymaster Wheel; the atmosph...

What is Retro Rocket? Do you know who owns the carnival rides at Elizabeth? I'm guessing it's a South Australian operator. Thanks for the pics by the way.

Disgraceful behaviour of course but I wonder how many people would take advantage of a faulty ATM if presented with one. I also reckon LPS won't recover the stolen money.

Re: Sunshine Coast Show 2011 (Nambour)

I think the Ranger has had a lot of down time since it was overhalled but when it does operate, it is as good as ever. The scenery is apparently very different with the ride surrounded by a moon with the passengers suspended upside down above it. All this makes no difference to me of course; the rea...

Re: Sunshine Coast Show 2011 (Nambour)

The major holiday rides at LPS at the moment are Rock-n-tug, Music Trip and Power Surge. It's a pretty good deal too with $10.00 off unlimited rides passes bought online.

Re: Carnival worker dies after July 4th festivities

Unfortunately this type of ride has been involved in several fatal and nonfatal incidents, including one at Darling Harbour when the ride operator was struck by the Super Loop when he bent to pick up a wallet which fell from the ride. I think this happened in 1991 or there abouts.

Re: Sunshine Coast Show 2011 (Nambour)

Power Surge is operating at Luna Park Sydney at the moment and is going great guns. The only drawback is the complete lack of atmosphere due to the fact music is not allowed to be played at a decent volume in that area of the park. I never realised how much music plays a role in the total ride exper...

Re: which capital show was this at? (1987 music clip)

Very interesting! The music clip may've been from 87 but I'm not too sure whether the footage is as I am fairly sure there weren't any Double rangers in Australia at that time; please correct me if I'm wrong about that! I know the Huss model debuted in 1988, operating at Hawkesbury before going to E...

Re: Dreamworld's Newest ride is on a mission to shock!

I agree with you Jobius. The Disk'o described for DW sounds quite diffeerent to the traveling model and I'd sure love to try it! Ninety seconds sounds a bit short for a ride cycle. Dream World should give riders two or three goes per cycle I reckon! It's often a problem with theme parks, the ride du...

I've never worked for Wittingslow Amusements but grew up with their rides and was a huge fan. I am fairly sure I saw you at the 97 RES, the last year at Moore Park and the year the Scorpion, Centrepoint 2000 and Chaos debuted. Then in 2000 I think you were working the Matterhorn at RES, is that righ...

While I agree with all of you who love the Rainbow as I too think it's a good ride, I don't think it's really being missed by anyone except us ride fanatics who appreciate more than just the ride experience. The Ali Baba is as popular as ever and is much more economically viable in these hard times....

Re: Hawkesbury Show 2011 (Exclusive: First photos of Extreme

It is difficult getting too close to the carnival area in Sydney when it is being set up unless you know someone or will be working there. I assume it is the same for other capital shows but in my experience, regional showgrounds are much less secure with minimal security personnel manning entry poi...

Re: Ipswich Show (Some Photos Added)

Great review as always! It seems all the refurbishments going on at the capital showgrounds are having negative affects on the carnival atmosphere which is disappointing. I must say I still do like the atmosphere of the carnival at RES but a local show is something special for sure. I didn't ride Ha...
