Wanting to start a carnival

Post by Ekkafan03 »

I have always wanted to start a small carnival in Brisbane and gradually build it up to a big one, I want to start this because Brisbane doesn't have many shows and the Ekka is slowly going down hill.

I would start this off small, a 3 day show starting from 9am - 10pm with Rides, Shows, Stunt shows, Monster Trucks and Fireworks. The rides I would have to start off ( that I really would like ) Would be Ali Baba, Zipper, Dodgems + kids rides, building up to something like Ali Baba, Zipper, Breakdance ( or cyber Party ) and try to build it up to even get to the stage where Extreme Speed could come, XXXL, Space Roller, Skywalker, or even the return of NO LIMIT.

This would take a very long time to set up and get going but I really want to do something, I had in mind this area to hold it ( http://www.nearmap.com/?ll=-27.51533,15 ... d=20120903 ) because I was there last night, it is very big, loads of space and even with 2 rides there I waited 1 hour just for Hurricane so the crowds would be big! I would advertise around Brisbane and have a facebook page for it to promote it.

I think with a little help from the Brisbane people on here and I, we could start something ! I seriously think we could.

Any Ideas on it? I know it will cost some money but it would be a fantastic idea.

Why would you want an Ali Baba?

There's a lot more to it then what you would think. Putting plans through to council, getting approval for use, having to pay rent for the land etc. Then you'd need contacts, you need to know showmen and people in the industry. (Showbag operators, food vendors etc) Then getting operators to give up usual shows/turnouts to come...

I like the positive thinking but then again you have to think realistically

you need start small shows like school fete or market shop with kid rides and games for the start to run 2 years then u get nominated from showmans guide which they will put you up in one state shows after that step up to become australia showmen guide its take long time to build up a business show start from bottom small equipment then later u can get major rides its not easy to become 1st generation also topgunner's recommend are correct

Thanks for the help guys ! :D

What would be the steps to start a small show you think? I know it involves asking to rent out the land by the government, and what would be some good rides to have for the first ever carnival? I know it would involve ringing up small amusement business to get the rides, showbags, food stalls etc all that and I know it will cost too.
What I have in mind for the first ever one would be something like this:

Ali Baba
Kids Rides ( Mini Ferris Wheel, Jumping Castle, Dodgems, Tea Cups etc )
Food Stalls ( Hot chips, Pizza etc all that stuff )
Maybe a small night time program ( A Monster Truck and Fireworks )

How does that sound for a small first show? I like it :)

Most operators have carnival spots where they've been going to for decades, especially bigger companies which also draw big crowds every year

Yeah I remember going to a Christmas one that mad a few of Bell's rides including No Limit once down in New South Wales south coast.
I could start this off small to get some attention of the bigger companies?

Pretty sure Chaos is still travelling with Gardener's? Insanity is sitting in the owner's yard and same with RollerGhoster sitting at Pickett's yard. Now that Carnevil is now travelling

Was gonna say, I thought Carnevil and Roller Ghoster were different just because of the lift hill design. Carnevil having the spiral while RG had several levels for it to go up.

I think they should bring Insanity back to the shows, What ever rides does Gardener own?

I would also like to see Chaos around at the shows too, this little fair would be a great place for it to be
