CENTREPOINT 2000 STAR DANCER

Post by Tilt01 »

What ever happened to that ride ? Is it still on the road. It was a great concept although people seem to prefer ferris wheels.

Yeh we started a thread for this a while ago, it's on page 3 of the travelling/portable rides folder. Last time I saw it was at Hawkesbury show a few years back and I think the last time someone saw it was at Moomba a few years ago. I thought it was a good ride too. From what I've heard it's still owned by Gill's

Yeh I never saw the ride with the cages on it, didn't they have to put lapbars too? I remember the old Ferrari Ferris Wheels never use to have the cages around them, was just you, the tarp on the roof and the seat, I admit it was good they put the cages on, would've been very easy to fall through

I wonder if we'll see this re-invented, converted to a Skyflyer? (would be surprisingly easy to do, and even easier to transport than as-is)

So it is still getting around then Josh. Yeh Zamperla I've seen photos of a Huss Condor being converted to a Sky Flyer ride so it could maybe be done

To be quite honest, I wasn't sure if it was either until we saw it in april. That was the first time I saw the Tilt in this neck of the woods too..

Josh, I saw the Star Dancer on the news story of this years Gladstone harbour Festival as well. Other than that, it was last in Rocky in 2002. I did hear that the Star Dancer was used in either the opening or closing ceremony of the 2000 Sydney Olympic games and was used as a rising platorm from ground level for one of the singing performers. The Tilt-a Whirl that goes to the Gladstone Harbour Festival has been a regular for several years now and I believe is operated by C.T.L. Amusements. It's one of the few with a backdrop- colourful at that!

Yeh that's the Tilt, owned by Clayton Taylor. Yeh I remember being told that, the Stardance was used at the opening ceremony of the olympics. When I heard that I got home looking for the video we recorded of the opening ceremony, but couldn't find it unfortunately. It'd be on the net somewhere

I heard at the time, not only were the owners paid very handsomely for SOCOG to 'borrow' it for a year, but the whole thing got meticulously refurbished.
