Parkes Show 2008
Hey guys, the "Best show west of the Blue mountains" aka Parkes show is on next week, 25th-27th. Its been a hell of a wait since the last show due to the horse flu, bloody bad luck that was.
So far i know the rides that will be there are:
Youngs Music Trip
Youngs Hurricane
Youngs Cha Cha
Kamikazi
couple of dodgems..
Does anyone know what other rides will be there?
Thanks
ChaCha

Yeah its Parkes annual show. but the town gets a public holiday on Tuesday and there is heaps of entertainment on, a demolition derby, Freestyle MX and fireworks, and novelty relays and stuff like that. so there is usually a good turn out, yeah i get sum pic's and do a review.

Looks like a good line up! Fair few double ups though, but it puts more rides on the grounds which is always good. So am i reading this right, there are 4 cha cha's at the grounds only two are set-up? thats insane... i've never seen that many in one place! I wonder how they settled argument of who was setting up. hehe, im sure the guild would've sorted them out... i hope.
Have fun, look forward to your review and pics.

Yeah, I was about to say it wouldn't be Johnnys. All his cars are yellow on the outside with a pink interior. Davis's Zipper is doing Gold Coast Show this weekend and Peter Short's I have no idea where that one is
Also who's octopus is it? I doubt it would be the Flarherty's Occy but it would be interesting to know.

Hey Guys, the Parkes show has come and gone and just before I get into a review I would like to have a little rant about the disappointment me and my friends experienced with some of the rides not accepting a guild promotion (Golden armbands – “unlimited” rides for free due to winning a competition - only 10 were handed out) and also some rides only giving half a cycle to people who used a 8 rides for 33.50 voucher, I myself wouldn’t have spent as much on rides if I didn’t have the coupons, and I know a lot of other people wouldn’t have either. There also ended up being 5 sets of dodgems.
But aside from that onto the review (I will do this in the order around the showground)
Young’s dodgems- smooth long and enjoyable ride, looked good.
Young’s Cha Cha – the bloke operating it was saying to my dad how it is the fastest in Australia when they crank it up, and boy do I believe that, ended up riding it 3 times with family and friends, the staff were good, it looks good and on my last ride (last one of the night), they cranked it up full and it was great. Running mostly full capacity.

Taylors? Cha Cha – I didn’t ride this one, it looked ok but didn’t run as fast as young’s.
Watkins Kamikaze – Went on this one twice, a lot smoother then I remember last time (but I have grown a bit more) , however the ride does look as if it has seen better days, only one arm of the lights were working and quite a few bulbs were out.

CTLS amusement’s Tilt – it’s been years since i went on this ride, it looks great a lot of operator interaction and going backwards we were stuck to the seat and didn’t stop spinning. Almost full capacity most cycles
Laurie’s Techno Jump- looks great, a good family ride, however this was one ride that wouldn’t accept the armband, so they lost a couple of paying customers as well. Almost full capacity most cycles.

Young’s Music Trip – starting to look a bit weathered, 5 seats weren’t working either and after two revolutions they stopped the ride, a bloke went underneath and fixed something and away it went. They also did not accept the armband (more lost paying customers).

Wicked Dodgems- never have I seen such dodgey dodgems, the floor was lifted up in some places, 5 cars weren’t working and they were slow as all hell, starting to look a bit weathered as well.

Zipper – aside from riding it 4 times I was quite disappointed, they wouldn’t accept the armband, and the cycle was painstakingly short, I found out at the end people who payed in cash got a double cycle which was kind of disappointing and I will be boycotting it next time i see it, its looking like it needs a little TLC, and the operators looked angry and depressed.

Octopus – sorry I didn’t find out who owned it, it was looking a bit grubby and has never seemed to live out of its reputation of the two girls who were killed, I didn’t ride it but it looked ok at night
Evans Dodgems – I didn’t ride these but they looked good and seemed to be running full.

Bell’s Tornado – looks good, but they didn’t accept armband which was disappointing, because one person really wouldn’t have made a difference, never running full loads, but never empty.

Bell’s Dodgems - Dodgems of the show, fastest, good looking and long cycle, half decent music

Young’s Hurricane – nothing beats the sound of the air being let out, looks ok, never running full cycles, but it could look a lot better.

Bells Music Trip – Looked great, almost full cycles, good interaction from the operator.
Laurie’s Dodgems – looked good, I didn’t ride these as they were the slower family dodgems.

Well that’s all the rides, I do have a couple more quims – some more decent modern music wouldn’t hurt and there was bugger all operator interaction, which was a bit sad when compared to RES

Mmm... It reminds me of what Dean's zipper looked like at first! Like Puke. I'm really sorry to sound so harsh but that ride is in desperate need of a cleanup.
My ranking for best looking zippers in AU.
Dean Davis
Peter Short / Johnny Castle tied
Zachini's
Young's
Your review of the Cha Cha reminds me of Pine Rivers, and the same with Clayton's Tilt... it would now have to be one of my favorite rides.

Nice review ChaCha, armbands cause a bit of angst amougst some show people, for a couple of reasons, they can make more money without them, with cash customers, dont forget these people work as individuals, so they may not be part of the armband system either, suppose it is up to the show society, but they cant do much either, they risk loosing showmen coming if they object too much.
